Step 2 : Answer to the question "Which Hawaiian island is entirely privately owned?"

Niihau - Located 18 miles northwest of Kauai and home to just 170 people, Niihau is nicknamed “the Forbidden Island” — and not just because the privately owned island is open to visitors by invite only. The island has been the property of the Robinson family for more than a century. The Robinson family are descendants of the Sinclair family, wealthy Scottish plantation owners who purchased the island from King Kamehameha V in 1864 for $10,000 worth of gold. In exchange, the family also promised the king to preserve the island's cultural heritage and protect it from outsiders. Today, it’s the only Hawaiian island in which native Hawaiian is the most-spoken language. The “forbidden” nickname may have actually stemmed from a 1952 polio outbreak — visitors to the island were required to have a doctor’s note to prevent the disease from spreading. Another Hawaiian island, Lanai, is mostly but not entirely privately owned. Billionaire Larry Ellison bought 98% of the island in 2012; the rest is government property and private homes.:
