Passing 130 feet above the Des Moines River Valley, the half-mile-long High Trestle Trail Bridge is part of a 25-mile trail that connects five towns in Iowa. Following the former Union Pacific Railroad freight line route, the trail became a haven for hikers and bikers after the trains stopped running and a path was built. The High Trestle Trail connects Woodward to Ankeny, Iowa, and the bridge itself was one of the trail’s greatest feats. Made of raw steel, the bridge is situated near the area’s mining shafts. Fittingly, the bridge’s design impression is that of descending into a mine shaft, as mining was once the bedrock of central Iowa.:
