Pittsburgh, PA - Thanks to three major rivers - the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio - and their tributaries, Pittsburgh boasts 446 bridges and more than earns its nickname: the City of Bridges. Perhaps surprisingly, before 1818 the city didn't have any river-crossing bridges at all. But in 1818, after years of riding through shallow rivers and walking through the hills for dry crossings, residents constructed the first wooden bridge in the city. In 1924, the city started work on a project to build more bridges in Pittsburgh. Today, Pittsburgh's bridges include the Liberty Bridge, the Hot Metal Bridge, and the famous Panhandle Bridge - all part of a collection of more bridges than any other city in the world.:
