Step 2 : Answer to the question "Where can you find this octagonal castle by the sea? "
Italy - Castel del Monte stands on a rocky hill in southern Italy, overlooking the countryside and not far from the Adriatic Sea. The structure is a perfect octagon shape, with eight octagonal towers and eight trapezoidal rooms within. Emperor Frederick II ordered the castle built in the 13th century, although no one knows exactly why since it’s not a defensive structure (there’s no moat or drawbridge, for one thing) and it’s not in a strategic location. Some think the castle may have been a hunting lodge, or simply a humanistic monument of some kind; the octagons may represent a search for perfection. Frederick II was a leading humanist thinker of his era, and the structure reflects his interest in antiquity as well as the Islamic world. UNESCO officially added the Castel del Monte to the World Heritage Site list in 1996, and the castle has also graced Italy’s one-cent coin.:
