Orefield, Pennsylvania - Opened in 1934, Shankweiler’s Drive-In Theatre is an American institution. Although it's not technically the oldest drive-in (one opened in New Jersey a year earlier in 1933), it's the oldest drive-in theater still in operation. This historic theater was opened by local hotelier Wilson Shankweiler, whose visit to the New Jersey open-air cinema inspired him to set up his own outdoor screen in the backyard of his hotel. It initially showed baseball games of the local team, Shankweiler AA, but within a few years it was advertising "talkie" screenings in the local newspaper. Today, it's equipped with modern projection technology and FM transmitters so people can use their car radio to get synced-up sound for the latest blockbusters.:
