Santa Rosa, California - One of the most popular and longest-running comic strips in history, “Peanuts” — and its beloved Charlie Brown and Snoopy characters — was created by Charles M. Schulz. Though the cartoonist grew up in Minnesota, he relocated to Santa Rosa in Sonoma County, California, shortly after the first Peanuts comics were published in 1950 and lived there for more than four decades. After his death in 2000, Santa Rosa’s airport was renamed Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport in his honor. The airport isn’t the only Peanuts-themed place in town, either. In 1969, Schulz opened an ice skating rink called Snoopy’s Home Ice. In 2002, the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center opened across the street, and together they form the Peanuts campus.:
