Grand Rapids, Michigan - Before he became President in 1973, Gerald Ford was a U.S. Congressman who represented western Michigan for more than two decades. Ford grew up in Grand Rapids and was a football star at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. To honor their hometown hero, Grand Rapids renamed its airport from Kent County International Airport to Gerald R. Ford International Airport in 1999, seven years before the former President passed away. The Gerald R. Ford Museum, his resting place, is also located in Grand Rapids.
