Step 2 : Answer to the question "Which notorious pirate has a U.S. national historical park named after him?"

Jean Lafitte - Jean Lafitte never called himself a pirate, instead preferring the term privateer. Much of Lafitte’s life is shrouded in mystery and legend — even the date and place of his birth. After the U.S. banned trade with Great Britain and France in 1807, Lafitte and his men were notorious for smuggling goods and enslaved persons through the swamps and bayous of Louisiana in an area called Barataria. But during the War of 1812, he became something of a war hero. The British asked Lafitte to help them attack New Orleans, but Lafitte warned U.S. authorities and offered to help defend New Orleans in exchange for pardons for his men. Lafitte’s support was crucial in the Battle of New Orleans in January 1815. That battlefield and the swamps of Barataria are both part of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve today.:
