It's cute and sweet (no pun intended) from top to bottom, and was designed to please its youngest players. Candy Land was designed by schoolteacher Eleanor Abbott, who was hoping to cheer up young children in the polio ward where she worked. In the 1940s and 50s, polio was an epidemic, and children with the disease were stuck quarantined in hospital wards. Happily, polio was eventually eradicated by Jonas Salk's famous vaccine. The magic of Candy Land, however, lives on.:
