Step 2 : Answer to the question "Where was the world's first solar-powered bike path?"

The Netherlands - The Netherlands is home to some of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the world and is known as a leader in renewable energy. So it’s no surprise that the Dutch put two and two together to create the world’s first solar-powered bike path in Krommenie, a town located northwest of Amsterdam. The lane stretches for 328 feet, and when riders pump their pedals along it, they will generate power for streetlights and homes in the process. The government, academics, and the private sector worked together on the SolaRoad, which cost a cool $3.7 million. It was intended as a pilot project to test the potential use for solar roads to power electric vehicles. Although electric vehicles are on the rise, the electricity required to run them still needs to be generated in a sustainable way, so the Dutch have looked to the roads themselves to generate energy.:
