As this is the classic uniform of the agent, the clause made sense to some degree. The issue came to a head for Brosnan during the production of “The Thomas Crown Affair” (1999) in which he played the titular character. In the movie, Thomas Crown (Brosnan) attends a black-and-white tie event. Due to the contract, he couldn’t suit up as would be expected, and instead had to wear an unbuttoned collar so as not to look too formal with the white bow tie draped over it!:
