But it's also attracted some of the greatest tennis players in the world, thanks to the International Tennis Hall of Fame located in town. Back in the 1800s, the building the museum is now housed in was originally a casino and resort that attracted wealthy tourists, who often played tennis at an annual tournament. When the casino floundered in the 1950s, a local couple purchased it and successfully lobbied the United States Lawn Tennis to recognize it as the National Hall of Fame, with the first inductees welcomed in 1954. Roughly 30 years later, the International Tennis Federation agreed to have the museum go international as well, with 252 inductees from 23 countries now gracing the walls and courts of this historical gem.:
