Missouri - The Climatron at the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis opened in 1960 as the first geodesic dome to be used as a conservatory. With no interior support and no columns, the Climatron allows maximum light to permeate through the glass in order to house a large collection of tropical rainforest plants. In 1990, thousands of panes of glass were replaced with heat-strengthened glass. Over 2,800 species of plants inside the dome require 85% humidity levels.
