Step 2 : Answer to the question "Which President created the White House's first dedicated press office?"

Theodore Roosevelt - While the 26th President may have been best known for his time leading the "Rough Riders" in the Spanish-American War, or his pithy approach to foreign policy – "Speak softly and carry a big stick" – the man often called "T.R." or "Teddy" by the public was also a savant with the press. His predecessor, William McKinley, had already allowed reporters to work at the White House, but Roosevelt was the first to install a dedicated office for them to work and phone in stories, which he did during White House renovations around 1902. He also held private meetings with individual journalists, often stroking their egos in an attempt to garner favorable press coverage. Other early 20th century presidents upgraded and moved the office but continued meeting with small groups of reporters at a time (the press room was a place to write, not ask questions). This format lasted until 1950, when President Harry Truman grew tired of groups of journalists congregating all around the Oval Office and decided to bring everyone together in a larger, single room to allow them all to ask questions at once.:
