Step 2 : Answer to the question "In which state did pilot Chuck Yeager first break the sound barrier?"

California - On October 14, 1947, Charles Elwood Yeager did something that no human being had done before: He traveled faster than the speed of sound. Yeager, an Air Force captain and the most famous test pilot of his time, pulled off the feat in an experimental X-1 rocket plane built by the Bell Aircraft Company to explore the possibility of supersonic flight. (Yeager nicknamed the plane the “Glamorous Glennis” in honor of his wife, Glennis Yeager.) He flew over a dry lake bed in California at an altitude of 25,000 feet, rocketing up to an altitude of 40,000 feet and exceeding 662 miles per hour while doing so, which was the sound barrier at that altitude. Yeager passed away in 2020 at the age of 97, but his legacy of groundbreaking air travel lives on.:
