Massachusetts - Minute Man National Historical Park contains the site of the first battle of the Revolutionary War, the Battle of Lexington and Concord in 1775. The park’s name references the American Revolution militiamen who agreed to be ready for military duty at a minute’s notice. One of the park highlights is the North Bridge over the Concord River, the site of “the shot heard round the world” which opened the battle. A number of nearby Colonial-era houses have also been preserved, including the Wayside, home to Samuel Whitney who stored ammunition for the minute man companies.
