Step 2 : Answer to the question "Where is the world's northernmost vineyard?"
Norway - Located at 59 degrees north (a similar latitude to Alaska and Scotland), the Lerkekasa Vineyard in Norway is believed to be the world's northernmost vineyard. It opened in 2008, partly because the geologist-turned-winemaker Joar Saettem wanted to see if he could grow grapes, but also to draw attention to global warming. The 15-acre vineyard is located in Gvarv valley, about two hours southwest of Oslo. Thanks to a microclimate created by the surrounding mountains, the area is able to grow plants associated with places much farther south. Only three types of grape were able to survive the Norwegian elements, but a year after opening, the vineyard produced its first vintage. The vineyard is open to visitors, who can even stay the night inside a giant wine barrel.:
