Germany - In a leap forward for the world’s quest for alternative and cleaner methods of fuel, a new concept for public transportation debuted in Lower Saxony, Germany, in 2018. Designed by French railway manufacturer Alstrom, the Coradia iLint is the world’s first hydrogen-powered train. Using fuel cells that turn hydrogen and oxygen into electricity, the CO2-emission-free train can travel as fast as 87 mph. It was built upon similar technology already in use in vehicles around the world, and hydrogen-powered trains have since been introduced in other European countries, including the Netherlands, Poland, France, and Sweden. :
