It became the world’s first international auto traffic tunnel when it was completed in 1930 and remains the world’s only international underwater tunnel specifically for automobiles. At just under one mile long, the tunnel is the second-busiest border crossing between Canada and the United States, with 13,000 vehicles passing through each day each day.
