John R. "Johnny" Cash was a Grammy Award-winning American musician, who is often considered one of the most important musicians of the 20th century. He is well known for his country music, which also spanned many other genres, including gospel, folk and rock and roll.

Early in his career, Johnny was recognised for his 'outlaw' image and rebellious actions. He was also known for the free concerts he held for prisoners and for starting most of his concerts with the words, "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash". Many of his songs focused on his good and bad choices in life and their consequences. He also write about sadness and being saved or forgiven by God.

During his fifty-year career, Cash sold over 90 million records, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Cash died on 12th September 2003 in Nashville, Tennessee, from complications due to diabetes. He was 71 years old.
