Portugal - When this bridge opened in 2021, it was the world’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge at 1,693 feet long. Called the “516 Arouca” (named for its length of 516 meters), the bridge is located in Arouca Geopark near Porto, Portugal. The wobbly bridge carries intrepid guests across a gorge at over 570 feet above the Paiva River. Construction of the 516 Arouca took more than two years. A large, V-shaped tower is on each side of the canyon, connected by steel cables and lined with rigid netting. The pathway itself is an open metal grid, measuring just three feet wide.:
