"Smokey and the Bandit" is a 1977 American road action comedy film starring Burt Reynolds (2/11/1936-9/6/2018), Sally Field (11/6/1946 Pasadena, California), Jacky Gleason, and Jerry Reed.
The film follows Bo "Bandit" Darville (Reynolds) and Cledus "Snowman" (Reed), two bootleggers attempting to illegally transport 400 cases of Coors Beer from Texarkana to Atlanta.
During their run, they are pursued by Texas county sheriff Buford T. Justice (Gleason) after Carrie (Field) runs away from her wedding to Junior, Buford's inepp son. During her get away, she jumps into Bandit's Pontiac Trans Am that serves as a "blocker" car, driven to divert the police from the speeding tractor trailer carrying the beer.
"Smokey and the Bandit" was the second-highest-grossing domestic film of 1977, with a box office take of $126 million against a budget of $4.3 million (only Star Wars made a higher gross that year).
Sally Margaret Field is an American actress, director, and activist. She is the recipient of various accolades including two Academy Award's ("Norma Rae" 1979 and "Places in the Heart" 1984). She also appeared in "Forrest Gump" (1994), playing Gump's mother.
Burt Reynolds was an American actor and producer of film and television, considered a sex symbol and icon of American popular culture. Reynolds first rose to prominence when he starred in the television series "Gunsmoke" (1962-1965). His breakthrough role was as Lewis Medlock in the film "Deliverance" (1972).
