Noticing that Bucephalus was afraid of his shadow, Alexander turned the horse towards the sun, placed a bridle on him, and mounted him, much to everyone's astonishment. Alexander rode the great horse into countless battles until he was sadly killed during the Battle of the Hydaspes in 326 BCE. In the horse's honor, Alexander named a nearby city Bucephala.:
