Norway - This monument features three stone Viking swords and is called "Sverd I Fjell," which means "Swords in Rock" in Norwegian. The sculptures commemorate the Battle of Hafrsfjord in 872 CE. Over 1,000 years later in 1983, the three bronze blades were constructed at the battle site near present-day Stavanger. Each of the swords is over 30 feet tall and the largest is topped with a crown, representing the victorious King Harald Fairhair, who brought ancient Norway together under one crown. Designed and sculpted by Fritz Røed, "Sverd I Fjell" is one of the most famous monuments in all of Norway.:
