Known as El Árbol del Tule, the massive Montezuma Cypress is roughly 1,500 years old, 116 feet tall, and a record-breaking 38 feet in diameter. For reference, General Sherman, the largest living tree by volume, is 36 feet in diameter. For much of El Árbol del Tule's life, it was thought to have been too large to be a single tree, but rather a merger of multiple individuals.
