It's made with rye whiskey, Peychaud's bitters, absinthe, sugar, and lemon peel. The cocktail was originally known as "Peychaud's brandy toddy" but was renamed "sazerac" after it became the official cocktail of Sazerac Coffee House in New Orleans. At first, the drink was made with brandy but this was later substituted for the rye whiskey it is most commonly made with today.:
