The geological phenomenon is called “Giant’s Kettle,” where swirling water eroded round holes into the rock over millions of years. The holes were named for gold prospector Tom Bourke, who proclaimed he’d found gold here, but ultimately didn’t have much luck. The potholes can be viewed from a nearby viewing point, which is part of the scenic Panorama Route.:
