The Ponte 25 de Abril (25th of April Bridge) spanning across the Tagus river bears a close resemblance to the iconic Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco Bay. Linking the city of Lisbon to the municipality of Almada, the 7,470-foot-long suspension bridge was originally named Salazar Bridge, after its commissioner, Minister António de Oliveira Salazar. When Salazar’s dictatorship was overthrown in the Carnation Revolution, it was renamed after the date of the revolution, April 25. Although its paint color is indeed the same “International Orange” shade as the Golden Gate, it was actually inspired by the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge and was constructed by the same company that built it.:
