Mercury - For the longest time, Pluto was considered the smallest planet, but the tiny mass was stripped of its title in 2006 when the definition of a planet was altered. An almost perfectly round plant, Mercury is less than half of the size of Earth. In fact, there are larger moons in our solar system than Mercury. Despite its size, Mercury is surprisingly dense, so much so it’s the second most dense in the solar system, after Earth. Small but mighty, Mercury is also the closest planet to the sun but not the hottest. While further away, Venus is actually the hottest. This is due to the lack of an atmosphere on Mercury where temperatures dip hundreds of degrees below zero at night and soar to up to 800°F during the day.:
