San Francisco - While this grand rotunda is reminiscent of the structures erected in ancient Rome, it is actually nowhere to be found on the European continent! Instead, the Romanesque-style Palace of Fine Arts is located in the Marina District of San Francisco. Architect Bernard R. Maybeck originally designed the palace for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915, which was a world’s fair that celebrated the opening of the Panama Canal.
