Today, the town of Mérida has extensive archaeological remains from its ancient Roman history, including an amphitheater, a theater, Roman baths, and a temple. The Milagros Aqueduct supplied Emerita Augusta with water, and today 38 arched pillars of granite remain. Mérida’s National Museum of Roman Art contains one of the largest collections of Roman artifacts outside of Italy.:
