Wales - This Welsh castle is called Tintern Abbey. Built by Cistercian monks in the year 1131 CE, Tintern Abbey is one of Wales' most iconic landmarks. The stone church is over 700 years old and is considered a masterpiece of British-Gothic architecture, featuring a seven-lancet window and soaring arches that are impressive even by today’s standards. Located on the banks of the River Wye, the abbey has since become a roofless ruin but still inspires visitors. In 1798, one of those visitors was poet William Wordsworth who composed a poem there called "Lines Composed a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey.":
