Step 2 : Answer to the question "Which two states contain the bulk of the Ozark Mountains?"
Arkansas and Missouri - The Ozark Mountains cover approximately 50,000 square miles in four states: Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Most of those 50,000 square miles, however, are in just two states. According to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the forested mountain region takes up 33,000 square miles in Missouri and 13,000 square miles of Arkansas, with the remaining 4,000 split between Oklahoma and a very tiny sliver of Kansas. (Some people include southern Illinois as part of the Ozark region, but that boundary has been debated.) The highest peaks, which reach upwards of 2,000 feet, are in Arkansas — but there's more to the area than just mountains. Lake of the Ozarks, Bull Shoals Lake, and Lake Taneycomo are popular resort and recreation destinations, and cities including Branson and Springfield offer plenty of entertainment and culture. :
