In the Bible In Matthew 14: 22-33, the reader is told how Jesus came to his disciples, walking on the water, and invited Simon Peter to come out to him. The Bible says Simon was afraid of the waves and began to drown until Jesus saved him. Peter at that time became the other man who walked on water with Jesus. Peter did the impossible when he completely relied on Jesus to enable him. As soon as Peter however took his eyes of faith off Jesus and focused his attention on the storm around him, he (Peter) immediately lost faith and began to sink out of fear.
With Jesus walking on the water, or on the sea, it is recorded as one of the miracles of Jesus performed as recounted in the New Testament. There are accounts of this event in the three Gospels—Matthew, Mark, and John—but it is not included in the Gospel of Luke. This story, following the miracle of the feeding of the five thousand, tells how Jesus sent his disciples by ship back to the "other side" of the Sea of Galilee (the western side). He he remained behind, alone, to pray. Night fell and the sea arose as the ship became caught in a windstorm. After rowing against the wind for most of the night, the disciples saw Jesus walking on the water. They were frightened, thinking that they were seeing a spirit, but when Jesus told them not to be afraid, they were reassured. Peter then joined Jesus. After Jesus entered the ship, the wind ceased, and they arrived at land.
