Tradition states that babies born on this day live the luckiest of lives. These babies supposedly bring joy and good fortune to everyone around them. The iconic "baby new year" personifies this association of good luck in the New Year. This tradition began in ancient Greece with an infant basket paraded around to symbolize the rebirth of Dionysus, the god of wind and fertility.
