Step 2 : Answer to the question "In the Parable of the Ten Virgins, why were five of the women called \"foolish\"? "
They forgot oil for their lamps - Like all of his parables, Jesus' story about the wise and foolish virgins is very simple on the surface, but holds a greater message for listeners. In the story, virgins are preparing for the arrival of the bridegroom to his wedding. Like modern-day bridesmaids, the women were waiting for the groom so they could escort him to the church. He was expected to arrive in the middle of the night, so the women prepared their lamps. Five of the women brought oil for their lamps and five did not. The foolish five who forgot their oil had to rush out and buy some at the last minute, and as such they missed the arrival of the bridegroom and were shut out of the wedding. Jesus is often called the Bridegroom of the Church, and he repeatedly tells his followers that he will return one day to bring about a new kingdom of heaven on earth. Like the wise women, Christians must prepare for Jesus' coming, and not be scrambling to prepare our hearts for his return at the last minute. :
