Step 2 : Answer to the question "What was the first U.S state to host the Olympics?"

Missouri - St. Louis, Missouri, opened its doors to the Olympics in 1904, but it wasn't the first choice for the premier U.S.-hosted Games. Chicago, Illinois, actually won the bid first. Unfortunately for the Windy City, the Summer Olympics overlapped with the World's Fair in St. Louis, and organizers didn't want the two events to compete, so Missouri took over. The location change turned out to be a bit of a disaster. Two months before the Olympics were scheduled to begin, invitations still hadn't been sent to other countries. And while that oversight wasn't solely to blame for the lack of attendees — less than 100 of the 651 participating athletes were from countries outside of North America — it certainly didn't help matters. Despite the chaos, though, records were set and memories were made in St. Louis, with American gymnast George Eyser winning six medals on a wooden prosthetic leg, and U.S. track athlete Archie Hahn pulling out all the stops with three gold medals and what was then a record time of 21.6 seconds for the 200m race.:
