Step 1 : Introduction to the question "What is a 'moonmoon?'"
...The concept of a moonmoon came from the mind of a child. A little boy asked a simple question of his astronomer mother: Can a moon have a moon? Initial studies suggested that a small moon orbiting another would be difficult because of the lack of space between a moon and its host planet. A really small submoon, about 6 miles diameter or less, could orbit a large moon if there was enough gravity to hold it in place, further studies theorized. Now scientists are looking for these moons orbiting moons, calls moonmoons, in our own solar system around moons like Titan and Iapetus, which orbit Saturn, and Callisto, which orbits Jupiter.
