California - The glass-enclosed Wayfarers Chapel was designed by Lloyd Wright — the son of Frank Lloyd Wright — on the outskirts of Los Angeles in 1949. Just 28 feet high and 27 feet wide, the fairytale-like church sits on bluffs overlooking the Pacific Coast in Rancho Palos Verdes in an area known as Portuguese Bend, famous for its slow-moving landslides. It’s no surprise that it’s a favorite venue for weddings — hosting some 800 of them each year — but it’s also a memorial to 18th-century Swedish scientist, philosopher and theologian Emanuel Swedenborg and part of the Swedenborgian Church of North America. The redwoods, which act as the living walls and roof of the glass-enclosed space, have given it the nickname “the tree chapel.” :
