...Sinology falls into the general category of "Chinese studies." Sinology studies the history, language, literature, philosophy, economics, politics and culture of China. Serious scientific study of China began in the 17th and 18th centuries. This interest in all things Chinese expanded in the 19th century and the early 20th century. Noted sinologues were J.
